What Exactly is a Digital Battery Passport (DBP)?

Rohith Palani
By 2027, every EV and industrial battery over 2kWh in the EU will require a Digital Battery Passport. But what is it actually? It’s not just a PDF on a website.
The Anatomy of a Passport
The DBP is a digital record that follows the battery from raw material extraction through to its end-of-life and recycling. It includes:
- Product Identity: Brand, battery type, and manufacturing location.
- Sustainability Data: The total carbon footprint of the manufacturing process.
- Supply Chain Info: Due diligence reports on the origin of minerals.
- Technical Specs: Rated capacity, voltage, and expected lifetime.
"The passport transforms a 'black box' product into a transparent asset, enabling the circular economy."
Why it matters for Exporters
If you export batteries to the EU, the DBP is your "license to operate." Without it, your goods will be stopped at customs. Our SaaS solution simplifies this by creating a secure, cloud-based home for all this data, generating the necessary QR codes automatically for your production line.
The Battery Passport is a tool for trust. It proves to your customers that your product is as green and ethical as you say it is.
